Facebook photo posts reportedly only have a 4 percent organic reach
Dive Brief:
- A new study from Socialbakers shows that Facebook photo posts now have the lowest organic reach of any style of post.
- Video has an organic reach of 8.71%, compared to 3.73% for photo posts—even text-only and link posts beat out photos with 5.77% and 5.29% organic reach respectively.
- Just last April, Socialbakers was reporting that 87% of the top 10% of brand posts were photo posts—representing a huge flip in organic reach for photo and video posts.
Dive Insight:
Considering Facebook's huge push for video, and its accomplishment of its video uploads surpassing YouTube, it's not a surprise that video has taken the lead in organic reach. What is surprising is that photos have so quickly fallen to the bottom, behind even text-only and link posts. The takeaway from this news is that social marketers can never get too comfortable, as the algorithms of organic reach will constantly be changing on Facebook. Photo posts are now much more likely to get love and traction on platforms like Instagram and Snapchat.
