Insight Definitions

Yes. Especially in strategy, marketing, and research, you can define insight as a revelation—something that makes you see a familiar situation in a new or more meaningful way.

A strong definition would be:

An insight is a revelation that uncovers a deeper truth, tension, or motivation beneath the obvious facts—and changes how we understand the situation.

Or, more simply:

Insight is a revelation that makes the familiar feel newly understood.

For brand strategy, I particularly like:

An insight is a meaningful revelation about people that explains not just what they do, but why—and opens up a new way to act.

The distinction is important: a fact tells you what is happening; an insight reveals why it matters.
